I have a Samsung TV as my primary entertainment screen.

After gathering quite a bit of information, I was able to fix Smart View on my phone with some of my own trial and error mixed in.

I decided to compile this guide with the help of that information so that you'll also be able to fix the Smart View feature with your phone.

If Smart View isn't working for you, check if the TV and phone are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Make sure the TV and phone are on the latest software versions.

Connect Your Phone And TV To The Same Wi-Fi

One of the prerequisites for Smart View is that your phone and the device you are trying to mirror to must be on the same network.

Your phone uses that network to send the TV's information to mirror your phone.

Make sure that both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network.

After connecting both devices to the same network, try turning Smart View on again and seeing if you can mirror your phone.

Allow Smart View On Your TV

Some TVs might require you to authorize a mirroring request for security purposes.

The request will usually appear as a prompt when you connect to your TV with Smart View.

To get this prompt, turn on Smart View and select your TV.

Now, look at the TV and check if the prompt appears.

Select Allow when the choice appears.

Wait for the phone to mirror your display and see if Smart View works again.

Adjust Aspect Ratio

Phones use a different aspect ratio than TVs because of their physical shape.

Since most phones are taller when compared to how wide they are, they use a more non-conventional aspect ratio.

TVs use 16:9 while phones use 18 to 19:9 aspect ratio screens.

Smart View might not work if the aspect ratios are proportioned correctly and can cause the display to look wonky and sometimes won't even work.

To adjust the aspect ratio:

  1. Pull down the notification bar by swiping down from the top with two fingers.
  2. Tap the Smart View icon.
  3. From the Smart View screen, tap the three dots on the top right of the screen.
  4. Select Settings.
  5. Tap Phone -> Aspect Ratio
  6. Set the aspect ratio of your TV here. It usually is 16:9.
  7. Save the settings.

Try turning Smart View on and see if you can mirror your phone to your TV.

Update Software To The Latest Version

Newer iterations of software bring further improvements and bug fixes to your devices all the time.

The reason why Smart View isn't working for you can be traced to a bug in your TV or phone software.

Updating your software on both these devices is the best bet in that case.

First, you'll need to connect both the TV and phone to a Wi-Fi network.

Then, to update your phone:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Scroll down to find Software Update and open it.
  3. Tap Download and Install.
  4. Your phone will now start looking for updates and download them if it finds any.

To update your smart TV:

  1. Open the Settings screen of the TV.
  2. Navigate to Support or Software Update.
  3. Select it and start checking for updates.
  4. The TV should install any updates that it finds.
  5. After the update finishes, restart the TV.

Now try using Smart View again to see if it works.

Restart Your Devices

Temporary issues that might have stopped Smart View from working properly can usually be fixed by restarting your device, and it's something that Samsung recommends you do is if you have any issues.

Reset Your Phone

If all else fails, you may need to perform a factory reset on your phone to fix Smart View.

Remember that a factory reset will remove all data from your phone and reset all settings back to factory defaults.

To reset your phone:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Scroll down to General management and select it.
  3. Tap Reset > Factory data reset.
  4. Scroll down the list that appears and tap the blue Reset button.
  5. The phone should start the reset and when it completes, log back into your accounts.

Try turning on Smart View to see if the feature works with your TV.

Smart View has protections for copyrighted content that prevents you from casting them on your TV.

You cannot mirror content from Netflix, Amazon Prime, and other streaming services with Smart View because they stream DRM-protected content.

Make sure that your phone supports Miracast because Smart View uses Miracast to mirror your TV.
